Sometimes litters are bred that are not eligible for National Kennel Club registration, most notably in the USA where the AKC has only just begun to register Leonbergers.
It turns out that the  AKC registers falsified pedigrees and doesn't want to correct the false informations.
So when buying a dog with an AKC pedigree, or looking for an AKC registered dog for stud service,  one should be aware of the fact that the parenthood like stated on AKC pedigrees doesn't have to be correct, so one must  check on one of the Leonberger Databases or with the International Leonberger Union (secretary@leonbergerunion.com )
If ancestry on an AKC pedigree is falsified, other kennel clubs will most likely not accept the AKC pedigree, such a dog can't be registered outside the USA, in case an American stud is used its offspring may not be eligible  for registration outside the USA.
